D’Arcy Johnson Day is actively investigating the events surrounding the recent notice that more than 200 Shore Memorial Medical Center patients received, indicating that they may have been exposed to HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C through a former employee’s blood.  The notices were sent February 16, 2016, to the patients who may have been exposed.  The potential exposure, however, occurred in the years 2013 and 2014.  It is unclear why there was such a delay in notifying patients of the possible exposure.

A former registered pharmacist at Shore Memorial located in Somers Point, NJ, is facing criminal charges related to stealing morphine and replacing it with saline.  This pharmacist, Frederick McLeish, has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and his pharmacy license was reportedly suspended twice prior to working at Shore Memorial.  The details involving the potential exposure of infectious diseases to patients is still under investigation.

It has been reported that 213 patients of Shore Memorial Medical Center have been sent notices that they should be tested for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.  The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Department of Health are also investigating this matter.
