Alison Matthews, 26, of Gastonia, North Carolina left her two young children, ages 2 and 4, in an unattended vehicle in the parking lot of a Target Department Store on June 20, 2010.

Fortunately, the children were unharmed because a witness came to their aid. The children had been locked in the car 15-20 minutes with the windows barely open under 90-degree heat. Such conditions can be fatal.

If you notice children or pets left unattended in vehicles this summer, please do what this “good Samaritan” did: get the innocent victims out of the car! And, of course, notify authorities and get emergency assistance if necessary. Needless to say, one should do whatever it takes to save the endangered children.
