A state of emergency has been declared after at least six tornados touched down in central North Carolina on March 28th. The worst of the damage struck a 3-mile stretch through neighborhoods of northern High Point.
Two funnel clouds grazed the ground in Davidson County while at least one landed in each of Guilford, Person, Gaston and Rowan Counties Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornados have been classified as EF2 and EF3s, with wind speeds exceeding 130 mph. Greensboro received record-breaking amounts of rainfall exceeding 3.0 inches between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Miraculously, only seven people have been reported harmed and none have been seriously injured. There have been no deaths as a direct result of the tornados.
