The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Institute describes itself this way on its website:

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit, scientific, and educational organization dedicated to reducing the losses — deaths, injuries, and property damage — from crashes on the nation’s highways.

It is supported by insurance companies looking out for their bottom lines, but the work they do is laudable.

Now, think of how many times you have heard, or said: "I wish they would make cars like they used to, back in the days when they were safe metal tanks rather than the cheap plastic death traps we have today." In honor of their anniversary, the Institute has released the video below. Make sure you watch it all the way through; the overhead view and the assessment of driver injury are telling.
