There are many ways to help our fellow human beings. Reaching out to the homeless takes compassion and strength of character and that’s exactly what Lawyers to the Rescue expects from its members. We visited Camillus House on August 10th, 2010 and served 250 meals.
We were disappointed that many of our members and invited non-members did not show up.
The Homeless have long felt rejected by society, unfairly judged and abandoned. They feel that way because it is evident in our feelings of discomfort and perhaps fear when we encounter a homeless person. It has been said that “the way to address human problems is to take human action”. So for Lawyers to the Rescue, helping the homeless is a project that is both inspirational and humanistic at its core.
We have plans in the coming weeks to setup a free legal clinic at Camillus House in Miami and nationally in the coming months and we need your help. Most of the legal needs of Miami’s homeless are in areas of family law, criminal law and immigration. We need lawyers who are knowledgeable about those areas to join us for our free legal clinic.
You do not have to be a lawyer to come serve dinner. We had a wonderful time and rewarding experience. Respectfully, we urge you to stop living just for your own self-gratification, driven by the desire for prestige, power, money and the motto: “I want it all, and I want it now!” Instead start living a life of significance, remembering that we could also lose everything as quickly as they did.
