The National Transportation Safety Board has begun its public hearing on the Colgan Air Flight 3407, part of their ongoing investigation into the causes of the Buffalo crash.
Kreindler & Kreindler LLP, a law firm with extensive aviation safety experience, is conducting an investigation into the causes of the crash as part of representing 12 families who lost loved ones.
According to AAJ member Daniel O. Rose, a Partner at the law firm, "a Captain with 107 hours in the aircraft and with five failed check rides in his file met or exceeded the FAA’s standards — this, if true, demonstrates that the FAA standards are bare minimums which do not ensure the passenger safety."
Most major commercial airlines require their pilots to have at least 2000 hours of flight time. The pilot and first officer of Colgan had less than 1000 hours of flight time combined.
Last night’s CBS Evening News profiled Scott Maurer, whose daughter Lorin, 30, was killed on Colgan Air flight 3407. Lorin, an all-American champion college swimmer and athletic manger at Princeton University, was on her way to Buffalo to see her boyfriend’s brother get married. Kevin Kuwik, Lorin’s boyfriend, said, “The things you’re hearing today, they certainly don’t give you a warm and fuzzy feeling about the day-to-day operations of some of these small commuter airlines.”
