A chain reaction accident on the New Jersey Turnpike involved four tractor-trailers, a pickup and an SUV.

The accident happened about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the northbound lanes near mile-marker 56.6 in Burlington County.

NJ.com reported that as one tractor-trailer came to a sudden stop in traffic, a second tractor-trailer crashed into the rear end. A third tractor-trailer braked and was rear-ended by an SUV, the big rig then hit a pickup truck, swerved into the right lane where it sideswiped a fourth tractor trailer sitting in the shoulder, then veered back into traffic and smashed into the passenger side of the second tractor-trailer. New Jersey State Police told NJ.com the accident was the result of traffic suddenly stopping and slick road conditions. The northbound lanes of the NJ Turnpike remained closed for two hours, with traffic passing on the shoulder, while police cleared the accident scene.
