Sony is recalling Personal computers because the lithium-ion batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a burn and fire hazard. The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the CPSC.

To this date, the company has been informed of four incidents of the units overheating that resulted in smoking, catching fire and melting. However, no injuries have been reported.

The recall involves Sony’s VAIO Flip PC Laptops with model number: SVF11N13CXS. The units were sold nationwide at Sony stores and came in three colors with the retail value of $800.

The agency urges consumers to stop using the recalled laptops and to shut down and unplug the unit. Sony can be contacted for instructions on how to arrange a cost-free inspection and refund of the purchase price if necessary.

For more information contact Sony toll-free at (866)702-7669 or online at www.sony.com and click on the Support tab, then on Electronics and then on Product Support.
