Nearly two dozen people were injured early Sunday morning when a balcony collapsed at an Austin apartment complex. According to the Houston Chronicle the about 30 people were thrown to the ground when the second-story balcony came crashing down around 4 am Sunday morning.
University Medical Center Brackenridge treated 23 injured individuals with injuries ranging from superficial scratches to fractured and broken bones.
A preliminary inspection found that there were approximately 30 people on the 400-sqaure foot balcony, exceeding the structures weight limit.
A more in depth investigation as to why the balcony collapsed will follow in the coming days and weeks.
Thankfully there were no life-threatening injuries or fatalities as a result of the collapse.
