Several lawsuits involving thousands of former NFL players that have been touched by concussions and brain injuries have now been consolidated into one master complaint, wetting up a huge case for the NFL.
The complaint, filed in Philadelphia, accuses the NFL of hiding information that linked football-related head trauma to permanent injuries. Among illnesses cited was Alzheimer’s disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy and dementia.
The complaint consolidates 80 suits filed by more than 2,000 players.
The NFL has known as early as the 1970s about the increased risk of repetitive head injuries, according to the complaint. It allegedly took no substantial steps to address the issue until 1994, when it created a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury committee.
The league denied the claims and said it’s reviewing the filing.
